Platt, Andy and Linda Family Scholarship
The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship was truly a team effort by Andy and Linda Platt and their daughters, inspired by family discussions during a period of racial tension in the spring and summer of 2020. Their daughters Amanda, Leah, and Adriana felt strongly that being a quiet bystander did not contribute to improving racial relationships. The idea for a scholarship with personal involvement, mentoring and networking was motivated by and conceived through these discussions. It is the family's hope that The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship, established in May 2021 and revised in 2025, will be truly life changing for the recipient and will have a positive impact on race relations.
Andy and Linda are both alumni of TÿÈÕ³Ô¹Ï College of Business. Andy received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1978 and his MBA in 1989, and Linda received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 1981 and her MBA in 1987.
The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship will award up to $12,500 to an incoming freshman who intends to pursue a major in the College of Business at TÿÈÕ³Ô¹Ï. Eligibility for the scholarship will be evaluated using the following criteria: location of high school attended; financial need/economic background; first generation college attendance; evidence of leadership ability; extracurricular activities; creativity; community involvement; and students with a history of overcoming adversity.
To be considered for The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship, students also need to be enrolled full-time, have a strong interest in participating in student organizations or other professional development activities and should demonstrate a willingness to participate in a mentoring program in the College. Additional consideration will be given to students enrolled in the College's Summer Leadership Academy. The scholarship will be awarded to students who, although they may not qualify for federal grants, clearly demonstrate the need for financial assistance to meet their cost of attending the University.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must submit the College of Business scholarship application and/or a university scholarship application. The final selection will be made by the College of Business Scholarship Committee.
Students who receive The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship shall receive the full scholarship amount. The scholarship shall be applied first to the recipient's student account, covering tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and meal plan costs. Any remaining funds after these expenses are covered will be disbursed directly to the student. Funds used for purposes other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and may be taxable to the recipient.
The scholarship is renewable annually for three additional years after the initial year or until the recipients graduate, whichever is sooner, as long as the student continues to meet the above criteria, maintain a major in the College of Business, remain in good academic standing, actively participate in a student organization in the College of Business, and are active in the College's mentoring program.
